October Giveaway Announcement

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend a webcast of a press event for Scharrfen Berger chocolate.  It was loads of fun.  In preparation for the webcast, Scharffen Berger sent al of its participants chocolate so they could participate in the webcast and try out the chocolate.  Scharffen Berger chocolate is something I’ve wanted to try for quite some time.  I love specialty chocolate (which I’ve talked about before).  I jumped at the opportunity to be part of the webcast.  I’ll have fun pictures and information on that experience in the coming weeks here at NEB.

In the meantime, I’ve been trying out the chocolate sent to me.  I really like their milk chocolate.  It is nice and creamy and just plain good as far as I’m concerned.  Their dark chocolate is good too.  I’ve tried two recipes that I really liked it in (a muffin and some crepes) and two recipes I didn’t (another, different muffin and some oatmeal bars).  Mostly, it has to do with the darkness of the chocolate and how I worked iwth it.  The two recipes I tried I grated the chocolate into the mix.  Now that was some good stuff!  Whoa momma.

Anyhow, I’d made the decision to share some of the goodies received from Scharffen Berger with you in the October Giveaway.  However when Scharffen Berger found this out, they offered to send some more chocolate for the giveaway.  Cool!  I figured you all might like some chocolate.

So here’s the deal for this giveaway.  I’m giving away two sets of goodies.

This first set is the main prize.  A bento box, bento belt, food picks, Scharffen Berger tasting squares, and Scharffen Berger cocoa powder.

The second set is just chocolate goodness.  Scharffen Berger tasting squares, baking chunks, and cocoa powder.

Here’s the rules:

  1. All I want to know is: What’s your favorite chocolate treat?  or What do you plan to do with the chocolate if you win?
  2. You have LOTS O’ WAYS to enter.  Here’s how:
  • Comment on this post.
  • Comment on the FB announcement for this contest.  See it here! BTW, I would love it if you fanned NEB on FB as well (but that doesn’t give you an additional entry).  :)
  • Send a Tweet with this message: Win a Bento Box and Chocolate at Not Exactly Bento in November http://nebento.com/?p=2065 #NEBgiveaway.  (though if Twitter changes my link to a tinyURL that is absolutely fine.  You have no way around that!)
  • Blog about this contest and link back to this post: http://nebento.com/?p=2065.  Be sure to comment below that you blogged about the contest.

That’s four ways to enter!  How great is that?  Easy peasy right?  Good.  Now go forth and enter, after you read the fine print below of course.

Now for the fine print:

  • I’m only shipping these items to people in the United States due to the food items.  Sorry.  It worries me with customs and such and that things might melt the longer they have to ship.  Next month, I’ll offer the prize to non-U.S. residents again.
  • Giveaway entries must be received by November 30, 2009, 8:00 p.m. to be eligible.  Any entries received after that time will be disqualified.
  • If you Tweet your entry, you MUST use the exact phrase given above.  No other tweets will be accepted.
  • Don’t be surprised if it takes me a week or so to ship your prize.  Just sayin’.

Be the bento everyone!

This prize is partially helped along with the donation of chocolate from Scharffen Berger.  I received no monetary compensation for including them in this contest or for talking about them positively.  Bento box and accessories purchased and provided by Not Exactly Bento.

  1. Aimee S. says:

I love Heath bars. I can pretty much eat any chocolate candy though. As long as it doesn’t have coconut!

  2. Yvo says:

Awesome giveaway! BTW, I don’t think people can comment/post to fan pages on FB unless they are fans, or that’s been my experience anyway (I can’t test because I am, obviously, your fan). Actually I’m going to msg you.

    • Jenn says:

LOL! Well, hopefully NEB FB will pick up a few fans. I feel slightly lonely over there. No one talks to me. (Now, how pathetic am I?) HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!

  3. Jen Hay says:

Chocolate is just so yummy, I mean to choose ONE – that is difficult. Still go with Death by Chocolate. But I know ANOTHER recipe I would use the cocoa powder in is one of the frostings for my Twice Frosted Brownies. Oooh and I could so use the the squares to make the brownies too. I blurbed the contest on my blog.

  4. Cee says:

I am not sure what I would do with all of the chocolate, but one recipe I’ve enjoyed making is chocolate cherry oatmeal cookies using chunks of baking chocolate, dried tart cherries, and a regular oatmeal cookie base recipe. YUM!

    • Jenn says:

Cee! I love chocoalate, and I love cherries. Would mind sharing that recipe with me? If you e-mail it to nebento at cox dot net, I loved to try it. And if it works out well for me, I’d like to feature it here on NEB with your permission. B/c that’s something I soooo wanna try.

  5. amy says:

if i have to pick just one i would say just a plain old hershey bar!

  6. chris fried says:

My favorite is chocolate covered pretzles, crunchy & salty on the inside then sweet on the outsids. Simple yet effective, thanks.

  7. Astrid says:

I have always wanted to try Scharffen Berger! Great prizes!

  8. Astrid says:

    Blogged about your giveaway, too.

  9. Maida says:

So do I get extra entries by blogging about it? Or is it limited to one entry per person?

    • Jenn says:

Whoops, sorry if I wasn’t clear on that.
Up to four ways to enter = four entries.

      Thanks for asking Maida.

  10. Argentee says:

Mmm… my favorite way to eat chocolate is home made fudge. Though I also make “Inside-out peanut butter cup cookies” using Hershey’s kiss candies and mini muffin tins. It’s a lot easier than the fancy name makes it sound!

  11. I LOVE chocolate!! At the moment all my cookery books are packed away in honour of our impending move, but off the top of my head I’d say Hot Chocolate by melting the grated chocolate into hot milk.
    Or a chocolate-port platter.
    Or chocolate macaroons.

    Yumm!!!

  12. Maida says:

    Awesome! Blogged about it here:

    http://www.missionvegan.com/giveaway-2/

  13. Shannon says:

Squeeeeee! I’ve fallen in love with bento, but have a hard time finding boxes localy (I hate paying for shipping). My favorite chocolate treat would have to be chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. Although dark chocolate chili bark has to be a close second.

    • Jenn says:

I’ve never had dark chocolate chili bark. Is it really spicy? That sounds intriguing but scares my taste buds.

  14. Kristine says:

I would probably sell my sould for any chocolate paired with peanut butter!

I am new to Bento, and would like suggestions on the perfect box.

    thanks

  15. Cerebelle says:

Truffles, most definitely. I can’t get over how completely awesome chocolate truffles are, and they always make me feel happy when I have some. Although, I have to say Ferrero Rocher is really freaking great two, with the hazelnuts and all. It’s a tie between those.

I don’t know which prize I’m more excited about, the bento box or the chocolate. Mmm :b

  16. Angela says:

I love Millionaire Fudge! It’s sinfully rich and I only eat it once a year, around the Christmas holiday, but it is by far my favorite Chocolate treat.

  17. Loolee says:

Chocolate & giveaway? How can a girl resist? I’m a huge fan of anything Dove or Haagen-Dazs. Still, an opportunity to try a new cocoa or chocolate anything is worth the time and calories. I suppose I would use the cocoa to enhance the flavors of the home-made marshmallows I have been making lately. If you haven’t given home-made a try, I would suggest it. My sis and I have been sharing them at the local food market, the people’s response to our samples is worth all the effort in the kitchen.

  18. BentoBoggle says:

My favorite chocolate is baking chocolate. You can do almost anything with it! Although I plan on eating this chocolate as is. =)It would be a crime to do otherwise.

  19. new2bento says:

I really would be happy to win the blue box to add to my collection. I intend to dip carmel apples in chocolate and roll them in nuts this fall. Sound good to you?

  20. aoi neko says:

Favorite chocolate thing? Chocolate Chip Cookies because they are so good. I in part because the chocolate is complimented by the cookie dough, it’s a great balance and combination. And they always cheer me up when I eat them!

  21. Jessica says:

Oh Scharffen Berger, you will always have a special place in my heart! By the way, if you’re ever in the bay area, you should check out gelateria naia if you’re a scharffen berger fan. They make absolutely fabulous gelato with scharffen berger chocolate.

  22. jomamma says:

I love anything with DARK chocolate, the darker the better. And I’ll eat chocolate with anything, red wine, steak, in my coffee, straight out of the cocoa can if I have to. Chocolate baking chips are not safe in my house.

  23. My favorite chocolate treat would have to be the salted caramel killer brownies at Dorothy Lane Market, for they are the epitome of awesome yummyness :P (also known as a diabetic coma in two bites).

  24. Christine says:

Hmmm… This is a tough one… I think my favorite chocolate treat is actually a thing at a restaurant. The Melting Pot (it has a bunch of locations, I’ve been to the Backbay Boston one) has this DELICIOUS chocolate fondue called The Flaming Turtle. It’s just like a turtle except as fondue, and they light it on fire. It is literally the best thing I’ve ever eaten.

As for what I’d do with the chocolate if I won, I live with a man who makes his own chocolates, so I might ask him to teach me how to make these delicious raspberry truffles he makes.

  25. Katie says:

That’s easy: Vegan Chocolate Cake from The Scent of Green Bananas blog: http://scentofgreenbananas.blogspot.com/2008/01/faux-lly.html. It is my absolute favorite chocolate food!

  26. Martha says:

So many ways to love chocolate. Today I made two kinds of biscotti ( almond & coconut) and dipped them both in melted dark chocolate. My 13 yr. old daughter is SUCH a chocolate fan(atic) that for last Mother’s day she melted 3# of my best chocolate and put it into a chocolate fountain as a ‘surprise’ breakfast dipping extravaganza for me. ugghhhh….gotta love a TRUE chocolate lover! :D

  27. Mer says:

I love chocolate with peanut butter. Or mint. Or just by itself. Or…

Well, there really aren’t a lot of bad ways to have chocolate. :)

  28. Jean-Paul Bergeron says:

I love chocolate. My favorite chocolate treat is plain milk chocolate. I love relaxing as it melts on my tongue, feeling the texture change, tasting the flavor release. I love to bake cakes, cookies, and breads with it. I also like bento lunches. I’m currently teaching myself to make makizushi to take to the office, and of course chocolate for desert.

  29. Melonie says:

My favorite favorite way to eat chocolate is when it is covering strawberries and bananas. :D

  30. milaxx says:

There is nothing I love better than good, quality chocolate. I have a great no bake chocolate ball recipe perfect for bento making.

  31. Christine says:

My favorite chocolate treat? A hot cup of tea and an entire bar of Endangered Species dark chocolate. :) Or really anything over 60% chocolate. Second on the list? Betty Crocker GF Brownies. They’re awesome!!

  32. Theresa says:

Blogged about the give-away. Love this site!

  33. Photopoppy says:

Chocolate treats? There’s nothing that beats the Dark Chocolate Sorbet from Chocolate & Zucchini. Dark, rich, easy to make, and relatively little sugar for being a frozen treat.

So it won’t fit in a bento. I suppose I’ll live. Just have to eat it when I get home instead :p

  34. Sarah says:

Mmm. There’s this Russian chocolate made with cognac that is just about the richest thing I’ve ever had. I also just love hot cocoa, especially now that it’s started getting chilly up in the Northeast.

  35. Zetty says:

For me, the best way to eat chocolate is…all by itself. Cut off a small piece, place it on top of the tongue, close your mouth and let it melt against the roof of your mouth – trying not to chew on it. Mmmmm – takes a little while to dissolve but it is well worth it!

  36. Alicia says:

I love the honesty in your post (about the chocolate as well as your baking experiences!) and have to share my favorite chocolate treat. It is the Curly-Wurly bar from Cadbury. This is similar to the Marathon bar of my childhood which is no longer made. A twist of light caramel covered in yummy milk chocolate! Now I’ll have to go to World-Market to pick one up this weekend since it is an import from the UK…

  37. Farnaway says:

Favorite chocolate? Whatever I’ve got — but every year about this time my totally cool local grocery gets in these incredible organic truffles. Pure deep chocolatey goodness rolled in cocoa powder, bite-sized with a minimum of sweet and a maximum of chocolate. I’ve got to start haunting them.

If I won the bento box, I’d give it to my sister the dragonfly lover (but she’ll never match my collection, bwah-ha-ha).

As for the chocolate — oooh, the possibilities! Chocolate chunk cookies (dried tart cherries? Brilliant!). Mix the cocoa with good powdered milk, vanilla powder, and stevia for sugar-free hot chocolate mix. Scratch brownies (wipes drool off chin, faints).

  38. Newtobento says:

I am just looking into making bento style lunches for the kids and stumbled across your site. Very cool!

Chocolate covered strawberries are one of my faves!

  39. varenikje says:

And let’s see…what will I do with the chocolate if I win? Hmm…It is very likely that the baking chunks will end up in bars that I make that have chocolate, coconut, graham crackers (there are non gluten versions of the graham crackers) and a few other goodies. The cocoa powder has many uses, among them a swirled chocolate cheesecake that I have made in the past. That sounds good! Although, cocoa powder also makes very good hot chocolate, which sounds nice with the cold weather we are having. I think writing this is making me hungry.

  40. Marlena says:

I love chocolate in any form. But what I can never resist is warm brownies that just came out of the oven.

  41. Shana says:

Hm favorite chocolate treat – hard to pick just one but I’ll go with soft gooey chocolate brownies with chocolate chunks. If I win I definitely see some of those in my future, as well as some cocoa spice muffins from the Joy of Vegan Baking.

  42. midnight says:

My favorite chocolate is milk chocolate bars filled with chocolate creme and hazelnut bits.
If I win the chocolate I plan to make triple chocolate chunk cookies, as well as mini brownie surprise (scratch brownies in a little muffin tin with a chocolate tasting square in the center), and (last but definately not least) a dark chocolate torte with blackberry coulis. http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Dark-Chocolate-Torte-with-Spiked-Blackberry-Coulis-234442

  43. Sage Norbury says:

I really love dark chocolate chunks in pancakes. They get a little squishy as the cakes cook and are a bit melty when eaten. Yummmmmmm.

  44. Sharon says:

I love chocolate–who doesn’t?! My husband and I went on a cruise this summer, and the dining room served a scumptuous chocolate melting cake. We got the recipe and I would love to make it using some of this fabulous chocolate.

  45. Denise says:

If I won the chocolate, I’d actually put it in the highest cabinet out of my family’s reach. I’d save it for a special treat for myself.

  46. Jessica J. says:

I love a delicious cupcake with dark chocolate icing. I also like dark chocolate Chunky bars!

  47. Melissa says:

Yum! Chocolate! And a cute bento! What a fun giveaway. :) Wishing myself luck! LOL :)

  48. Sabrina K says:

Yummy chocolate!!! Just what I need, chocolate that actually belongs to ME!

  49. Strawberry says:

I blogged about this contest and also about how wonderful Scharffen Berger chocolate is I love this brand and use it all the time, and we bento too, My DD has food allergies and sending her with lunch is the only way I know she is safe. And as a 13 year old if it isn’t a cool lunch and box it won’t fly so we bento.
    http://strawberryholts.blogspot.com/2009/10/chocolate.html

  50. Squeegie says:

My all-time favourite chocolate treat would be Chocorooms. The taste is similar to Pocky but in the shape of mushrooms and more chocolate than cracker. The chocolate mushroom heads are melt-in-your-mouth!

  51. Pam says:

There are two chocolates that I just can’t choose between… The first is fudge made with my grandmom’s recipe. And the second is the strachitelli(sp?) Lindor Truffle. I know I didn’t spell it right, and I can’t say it either. But it is SO good!

  52. Cristina says:

I love to use Cocoa powder to make chocolate cakes. It makes some of the best chocolate frosting when used with powder sugar.

  53. Cristina says:

I tweeted. Here is the link to my tweet… http://twitter.com/Alacransita84/status/5223590630

  54. Candace Brady says:

I think it would be fun to have a girls night in with a good movie and chocolate tasting!!! As for my favorite chocolate its hard to choose but I think it would have to be reese’s peanut butter cups. All I haveto say is heaven bless who ever came up with that delicous combo!
