Bento: Spaghetti & Salad (117)

Hmmmm….spaghetti.  I love spaghetti, but it hates me.  The ultimate in love/hate relationships.  However, the hater tomato sauce is taken care of with a little antacid.  Does this stop me from enjoying and making spaghetti often?  Nope.  Spaghetti and noodles is one of my go-to meals.  I always have some in my freezer.  I only have one other package left after this one.  EEK!  It is time to make another batch.

Top tier: Spaghetti with linguine noodles (noodles of course are hidden beneath the sauce)
Bottom tier: salad of broccoli, carrots, raisins, and pecans…3 choco covered pretzels.

The recipe for the spaghetti sauce can be found here: http://www.recipezaar.com/22782.  I highly recommend it.  My only problem with it was I don’t know a thing about wine.  I couldn’t figure out what sort of wine (brand) to purchase.  I don’t drink wine, and therefore had no clue as I stared at all the different bottles down the aisle.  I ended up buying this small bottle that is more a little personal bottle of wine (smaller than a beer bottle).  It didn’t ruin the spaghetti, but I can definitely tell that I need a better bottle of wine next time!  Any wine suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As you can see I’m enjoying my new bento box.  YIPEE!  Now, Sile had a few questions about these boxes.

What are the specs on those rectangle boxes?
The best spec about this box is how it stacks.  If you refer to my original picture, you’ll notice that the smaller container of the box fits ontop of the larger container of the box: opposite of the oval style boxes.  The top of the box has a nice silicone lining and does not fit into the box.  Notice in the picture above that those choco pb pretzels are sitting above the opening of the box?  Due to how this box is made, I don’t have to squish things down into that top portion.  YAY!  Sometimes squishing things down is a difficult matter.  Now, the larger bottom tier does get squished, but I can handle that.

However, I’m pretty sure by specs Sile wasn’t referring to my love of the design and construction of this box.  Since I feel this is an important aspect to the loveliness of this box, I felt it necessary to mention. :)

How many ML do they hold?
Yep, that’s the specs I’m pretty sure that Sile wants, and maybe you, my other readers, want as well.  The thing is I can’t read the writing on the underside of the box.  It’s in another language, which I don’t know.  Possibly Chinese since it was “Made in China.”

There are two numbers with ml: 250ml and 350ml.  I’m still learning  how to tell how big a bento box is.  So I guess those ml numbers are for the smaller and larger tiers for a total of 600ml.  They seem to hold near the same amount as a regular oval box.  I find this box holds a touch more due to its shape, especially bulky items like broccoli.

What seller did you get em from?!!
I purchased these boxes from the Bento Obento shop on Ebay.  Search Bento Obento under Ebay Stores.  This seller is in California so shipping isn’t too bad and doesn’t take long at all.  The prices are no Ichiban Kan, but I’m willing to pay a bit extra for something I haven’t been able to find anywhere else.

Hope that answers all your questions, and then some, Sile!

I’m not a red wine drinker, so I usually opt to leave the wine out of most recipes. I also don’t really like wine in cooking (but I drink wine; and I like beer in cooking, tho I don’t drink beer! Odd much?)

Having said that, decent wine doesn’t have to be expensive. Find one you would drink and go from there. If you don’t like wine, you’re probably better off leaving it out as wine cooked down tastes like wine concentrate… well, my thoughts, anyway :)

OH BTW your salad looks scrumptious. And I have one rectangular box, and what you say is true about the top box having a bit more give, though I never thought of it that way – I’m always more “There are no utensils” so I use a different one :) and it’s a bit larger than the other boxes, and since I’m still trying to lose weight, I tend to avoid that box if I can :)

That DOES help, yes. And Of course I take your love for the design into consideration! Certain boxes are popular because of such love. ;) I only ask because most of the times bento look HUGE in pictures and you can’t really tell how big they usually are. I try to keep my ML count at around 600, because then I’m full without being STUFFED. Unless I’m dumb and pack too much rice.

Bento Obento, eh? hmm. Yeah, I’ve bought from them before… During the BI days (before Ichiban Kan). I hope she has some in when I get back from my trip in September, because I’m not allowed to be expensive until then. Still, 3 boxes for $20 is better than some of her other “deals” ;)

Plus I love getting boxes in other shapes. Most of mine are the usual two tier rectovular lube sheep jobbers.

    Thanks a lot! :)

Rectovular! LOL! What a great way to describe those boxes. I’m glad the info helped. I understand completely why you asked. I think that too when I look at bento blogs, “I wonder what size box that is because it looks HUGE!”
